Today is December 31, 2008 . The end of another holiday season and great celebration with family and friends. Spending our first Thanksgiving and Christmas with our new daughter-in-law was such a blessing. Hearing our son say, “Someone get the camera. Take a picture of my FIRST turkey.” So fun and definitely memories made. One…

Yearly Archives: 2008Some years just fly by before you know it, some years drag on. 2008 was one of those years that seemed to last a lifetime. I guess any year that has a deployment in it is a slow moving year, filled with emotion. What I did relearn from 2008 is cherish moments with your family… I did the same thing… bought a bright red planner!! The family and I went to American History museum in Washington D.C. yesterday. I was anxious to see the Medal of Honor citation for Audie Murphy. They also have his field jacket, bible, and dog tags. I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion that accompanied the trip. We started in the entertainment section because… Sarah, I went to a military museum with my dad while my husband was deployed – I understand! Though I didn’t have the little ones to ask questions. From what I’m told, they can both be a good distraction during deployment and also make it more tough as you worry about them as well as your husband. Glad you had that potty break to save you! Its been 2 years since I’ve been to the American History Museum downtown — but I do remember the display you are talking about. It was very emotional. I have a hard time emotionally looking at the display of things people have left at the Vietnam Memorial.I am a volunteer at the National Museum of the Marine Corps – - if you haven’t visited it yet, I’ll give you a heads up, we depict the wounded and dead. Its done tastefully but to also make people think about the sacrifices of the men and women who we send off to war. Its the sad reality of the broken world we live in. I can tell you that when I give tours (and I’m not military, nor do I have a family member in the military) I have to choke back the emotions – - a tour guide isn’t suppose to cry. I’ve had veterans break down in front of me when they see a picture or something in a display case – - like a tootsie roll wrapper. Thanks for what you do as a wife and mom! Wow as quickly as Christmas came.. POOF it was gone! Since we just got to Colorado, we decided not to go anywhere this Christmas. It was so nice just being the 4 of us. Nowhere we had to be… we just chilled all day Wednesday and Thursday. I know next year won’t be the case… Hi Tammy, Sounds like a great Christmas! I am wondering if you would contact me? I am in Colorado too, and about 3 hours from Ft. Carson. We make trips there at times to bring our deployment book for kids, but would love to connect with you if possible. You can e-mail us at weethepeoplepublishing@gmail.comI’ve been needing a new printer, so thanks for the review on the Kodak! kathleen- I sent you an email! Oh and you’re welcome about the printer! I love love love this one! Tammy:The other day I found myself wondering if I’m the only one going through the big D in 2009.I have been holding my breath. No one could really get me to think about it until after Christmas. I at least wanted that. In the Guard/Reserve, and I know somewhat in the active duty, it seems they’re “gone” before they’re gone. Everyone asks when he’s leaving and I say after Christmas…because with Polk, Atterbury, Shelby, and Stewart all in between now and Afghanistan, I mean…..who are they kidding? June really isn’t D-day, it’s D+180. And then the clock starts ticking.I’m with you. Let’s hurry this up a little, sort-of, sometimes.Like my mother-in-law tells my kids when they have to get out of the pool. You got to get out, so you can come back. Just go and come back already is what I say.So, yeah…with you there. Glad your Christmas was nice. Ours too.I’m getting ready to post about it…and it’s January 16th. Obviously, I didn’t want to leave “the pool.” It isn't the size of the gift that matters, but the size of the heart that gives it.Very interesting work. Well, it’s been a big year for my husband and I. We have made it through R&R, homecoming, a graduation, a very important test for me, a move, and the beginning of his current round of Army schooling. I had to deal with a new home, finding new friends and the fact that for basically… Are you prior service, like National Guard? I have never heard of the Army not issuing uniforms!?! Is it a new thing? I asked my husband and he said that was crazy! I am so proud of you and for you!!! Go Kasi!Congratulations on a big step! This comment has been removed by the author. How to say it without sounding like a total snot? I’m going into the JAG Corps via direct commission. New officers don’t get the uniforms issued, and I need to show up with everything. It’s just getting everything at once (right at Christmas, of course!) that was a pain. It will be okay. It just sucks that the one time in my life I get to get a whole new wardrobe at once…. it’s all uniform, no choice involved! LOL |
