Monthly Archives: September 2008Well hello there blogosphere! I’m finally back to work and a crazy time it has been. I am really “back” this time too! I mean it. It feels so SO good to be in a spot I know we are going to “park” for awhile. A “home” so to speak. I have to tell you… Hello out there AWTR supporters & listeners! Earlier in the month we started an AWTR video contest. We appreciate each of you submitting your videos for our team to review. We apologize for the delay in getting back with all of you. Not only did we receive tons of submissions to comb through but it… I’m ALMOST there. Still not close enough in my opinion. However my sweetheart is just days away. We are finally getting our R&R and it feels like it has taken ETERNITY! I think it all really hit me today. I did a bit of “favorite food” shopping and I cleaned the whole house… AGAIN! I… So glad to hear your soildier is almost home! I hear ya, on that Eternity part, mine is coming home to us in March! Hardship tour in South Korea.Currently, my back has been hurting, however I look on the bright side, God doesn’t give us, more than what we can handle, so I take it all in, really. I do have too, admit, you made me giggle, as I read your post, reminds me of those same feelings, as well. I am new to this group, and I live in San Antonio, Texas.Candy M. Reyes. Before my husband deployed he made my son a teddy bear from Build a Bear Workshop. Inside the bear is a little recording of my husband’s voice. My son was very young when my husband deployed. This little bear became his best friend and constant companion. The bear helped comfort all of us in some… |

The biggest way I save money right now on groceries is I order my coupons from http://www.thecouponclippers.com They charge a small handling fee to send them to you but the up side is, you don’t have to clip, search and worry about if you will use it or not. YOu can get the ones that you know you will use. I also use the site http://www.afullcup.com On there forum page you can search for the local grocery store in town and they will have a list of what’s on sale at that store and what the price is after any coupons that are available. I used to think this is TO MUCH WORK. I’m not going to lie, it is alot of work. HOWEVER, on average I save $70 per big grocery trip. Not to mention the multiple times I run to HT(Harris Teeter) and save there as well. My last trip to HT was $16 spent $43 saved. Now who can’t get excited about that?I always, ALWAYS look at the clearance shoe section. If I find a good shoe that is to big for the kids now I still get it. I have never paid more than $20-23 for a pair of the kids athletic shoes. (they are always good ones too like nike, sketchers, kswiss) Look every time you go to the store, you will find something. Most times I find nothing but there are the rare occassions that I find a good deal there and then I don’t have to worry about shoe shopping with kids in tow.Have you heard of Freecycle? I didn’t until recently. YOu can post for things you are looking for and things you want to get rid of. The best part. All of the stuff is FREE. It’s better than throwing it away it’s cycled onto someone who can use the stuff you can’t anymore. For the lower enlisted there is always a Back door Botique of sorts at every post. It is where E5 and below can go and get the things they need at little or no cost(most of the time at no cost).Don’t rule out Sam’s or Costco for furniture or bigger ticket items. We got our kitchen table there. It’s pub style with 8 chairs and a butterfly leaf for $700 Which is cheap for that type of table. Can you tell I get excited about saving money or a good deal?
Ask for local discounts! or even discounts while shopping in catalogs and online. We say this a lot, but I still forget to do it.For instance:Our local Bass Pro Shop has a 10% Local Hero Discount now through Oct. 31. Check your local store for details. *Offer good on regular priced merchandise only. Show your ID! Probably going on now because hunting seasons are upon us.Thompson Cigars is another magazine in which I saw a deal for the troops, more like a bonus, instead of a discount. If someone you know smokes cigars, order the 21 Gun Salute Sampler and Thompson Cigars will send 2 free to the troops. Check thompsoncigar.com for item number 911002 (21 Gun Salute Sampler) for only $69.00 (a $133 Value).
I save money by serving meals that I can turn the left overs into a second meal. For example: if I serve pork roast, the next night I serve pork fried rice with the left overs the next night. If I serve ham on the bone, I make pea soup with the bone. If I make a roasted chicken, I’ll serve add gravy and toast and have hot open faced sandwhiches.
