A day at a time

School starting… well, not for my little one, at least not this year.  I still have about four more years before he will have that first day of school, but seeing all the pictures of kids being posted, it really made me think about how quickly time goes.  I know so many of those mothers were in my position not that long ago thinking that they still had a good number of years before their little one started school, but then life happens.  I think especially in military families that time seems to speed by at times when we would not like it to.  Times such as those last few weeks before deployment or the last few days when we have a thousand things to do to finalize a PCS move.  I think children just seem to be the constant reminder of how quickly time goes.

I have learned that my son is growing faster than I would like and I know there is nothing I can do about it, but I also know that as he grows there are going to be new explorations, new adventures and someday in a future there will be that first day of school.  As he takes on every new challenge, I’m sure he will jump at the opportunity to put on that backpack for the first time and run into his new classroom.  I, on the other hand, will try to maintain my composure as my little guy will be starting a new chapter and I look back on how quickly the time has gone.  But it’s all part of life, I know that he must grow up…  In the meantime, I will enjoy the time with him as we play in the mud and chase bugs and all the other things that little boys enjoy doing and just take it a day at a time.
