I love reality television. I know it might not be “reality.” But, after a long day, escaping in the crazy, unscripted drama is something I look forward to.
I rarely get overly invested in a show (I have my favorites), but this season of Masterchef, on Fox, has me hooked to the television screen.
Why? The most obvious reason would be Gordon Ramsey screaming at the contestants on how horrific their food is and what a disaster they are in the kitchen. Sort of. I love him and his cooking. The drama he adds is an entertainment bonus – but I watch so intently because of one of the contestants and her story.
Christine Ha, a graduate student from Houston, Texas, is one of the top chefs on the show and she is legally blind.
She has out-cooked most of the other contestants on the show, worked her way through competitions that seemed impossible and does it all with grace and poise.
For me, she is a weekly inspiration. I love watching her. She is calm, cool and collected. She has gained respect of her peers and is a positive person. She sets things on fire, cuts herself a lot and relies on her other senses to work her way through the kitchen, but manages to come out on top – all with a smile on her face.
I know, I know. It is just television show. But how can we not gain inspiration and perspective from a person like Christine?
As Army spouses, we have to rely on our instincts, smile through the hard times and remain calm and collected when chaos surrounds us. We need grace and poise when times get tough, especially through moves and deployments. Sometimes, being positive seems like the only way to get through the day to day, because the alternative just won’t do.
I am not sure if Christine has any military ties, but her personality and perseverance alone makes me want to be a better person. It makes me want to continue to strive for goals and dreams that I have set and to try and be a positive and uplifting person. Because like I said, the alternative to that, just won’t do.
And, in case if you have missed out on this awesome season of Masterchef, go to www.fox.com. They have full episodes, clips and contestant bios, and my favorite, recipes.

YES! I have never watched Masterchef before, but I am glued to the TV because of Christine. She brings NO drama (a rarity on reality TV). She is not perfect, neither are any of us, but she sets a fine example of how to overcome obstacles. Though her blindness poses quite adifficult for a cooking show, she is ROCKING the challenge. Team Christine!
Exactly! I am a firm believer of drawing inspiration from daily living and those around you!
