I am so thankful to have such wonderful people here at Ft McCoy taking such good care of me and keeping me safe. I am glad that I reached out for help through Military One Source and saved my husband and my life. He is a perfect soldier but exhibiting Severe PTSD and it was my fortitude that kept me alive and safe and no matter what anyone said to me, I would not leave him if I kept him from harming himself………..he served 2 wars for me.

I’d love to try a cruise! It’s been a no go for us because Kevin doesn’t do boats. :) How much fun to plan though! If you have time, try to give yourself an extra night in Charleston. It’s my favorite city in the world- there’s some AMAZING food to be experienced there!

I never did boats either until Kim took me on my first cruise at the beginning if the year. I loves it. Took some getting use to when you tried to sleep, but a great time! We would recommend Royal Caribbean. They never have had crazy issues.

I’ve been on 3 cruises, 2 with Carnival and 1 with Princess (which is run by the same company). We always have so much fun on the ship and on the islands. It’s always nice to wake up early and watch the sunrise and watch as the ship pulls in to the port and then have breakfast before getting off the boat to go explore. There’s always tons of good food all hours of the day and night, and you can even get room service, it’s free, you just tip the person who brings it. You have to go to at least 1 of the shows they do at night, they’re awesome! They do alot of like broadway type shows and sometimes magic shows and they have comedians sometimes too. There’s always at least one formal night where everyone gets all dressed up in their best formal attire for dinner. They have casinos on all the ships, and lots of little shops to buy clothes, jewelry, and all kinds of souvenirs. It’s fun to go up on the upper decks and find a nice quiet spot to read or have a drink or just sunbathe while overlooking the water. There’s movie nights on deck too on the huge screen. There’s just so much to do, you’ll never get bored! Enjoy the nice comfy beds, they’re amazing! Oh, don’t forget to pack sunblock and all of your toiletries, I think stuff like that is pretty pricey onboard. I hope you have fun and enjoy your anniversary! I’m sure you will! One more thing, Nassau is beautiful! If you go to the Atlantis Resort, there’s a really nice beach there and you can walk through this tunnel type aquarium thing, it’s really cool!

You are going to have a blast! My husband and I are taking our second European cruise in June and I cannot wait. In terms of preparing, just know that cruises do expect you to dress nicely, especially at night. I wanted to just wear shorts and tank tops the entire time, but if I did I looked like a slob compared to the rest of the passengers. Nice sundresses are great to have on hand for the casual dinners, and depending on your cruise you might have a night where you should bring an old ball gown. Have fun now planning what you will do at port, that is the best part! For us we use excursions if we want a guided tour of a city we are stopping at, but most of the ports we get off on our own and do our own thing. We absolutely love cruising. I have an autoimmune disease, so vacations are really hard for me. Cruises allow us to see a bunch of places, and the hotel moves with us. If I get too weak, we don’t leave the boat and I spend a day resting. Enjoy your trip!

Leavy Hogan - April 13, 2013 - 2:59 pm

I was stationed with 1st Armored Division on Barton Barracks in Ansback from 1977-80 . I made many good friends that I still remember and miss very much. The beauty of the town is overwhelming in my memory. I may regret one (or two) of the October fests while I was there, but the volksmarches is what I miss the most (besides the beer). I still have several medals they awarded for going on the walks. I wonder if they still hand out medals for going on volksmarches?

The anticipation of going back stateside was agony. But being there was an adventure, well almost every day. I remember the best rock concert I ever attended in Nurenburg. And I remember living in tents on the mountain tops in the Bavarian Alps. While I missed being in the US; I loved being there.

Remember to Enjoy!
