The Long Goodbye

Ick… today starts the “I really hate this part worse than deployment phase” of Army life. After three fun filled weeks of block leave (and some use or use thrown in there too), Army guy is back at work for what I like to deem The Long Goodbye. The Long Goodbye is even longer here…

I can completely relate. Our long goodbye started last week.

Nikki - July 23, 2012 - 4:26 pm

Thanks Holly! I’ll be praying for you all through this, and going through it with ya, if even from afar!

There really is a difference, a BIG one

I’m so not good at being politically correct. I’m trying to get better about it, but there are some things that really just get my goat if ya know what I mean. Lately, it seems like in every single thing I do, I stumble upon someone who thinks that they are entitled to do something…anything….

Give him a fish, he eats tonight. Teach him to fish, he eats for life.

I agree except for one thing. The Army (or any of the other branches) Doesn’t know anything, nor do they care about, Army HUSBANDS. You know, the guys married to our Female soldiers. We are a rare breed, and seldom seen, but we exsist.

And it seems that not only does the military NOT care about what we may need, but they encourage us to stay hidden.

Now here is the kicker. I’m not complaining about how the husbands are treated…..im cool with it. I want the wives treated the same way. ;) ya follow?

Rebecca Homan - June 25, 2012 - 2:01 pm

Rick, have you heard of or checked out MANning the Homefront?

Rick Colburn - June 25, 2012 - 2:27 pm

nope, never heard of it……but then again, im not really into these support groups.

I served for 5 years as a soldier, and am currently on year 13 as an Army “wife”……..7 more years and the Wife and I can sit on our front porch with our wine glasses and yell at the kids to stay out of our yards.

THAT’S my support group. ;)

Our own @[1179198252:2048:Wayne Perry] started MANning the Homefront. We recently interviewed him on AWTR. He’s our resident Army Wife Dude. You should check it out! :)

Rick Colburn - June 25, 2012 - 2:36 pm

Appreciate it, but im good. Im already the mascot (see “Resident Army Dude”) for one group. For me, that’s good enough :)

Hi Again!

Hi, I’m Nikki and I am a blog-a-haulic. But, not lately. Lately, I would consider myself a lazy lost little butt. So much has happened in this last year that I really can’t even explain it. But I think the most important thing to note is that God has finally given me what I have…

Ummmmmm, I have the same problem about saying what is on my mind. So I’m saying to this entry……”Who cares?”.

Great post Nikki. Love the honesty. :)

HELP…. I’m a city girl stuck in Army USA!

Not so very long ago there was a girl. A city girl. From Detroit. When she was very young her parents packed her and her big sister up and moved the family to Florida. No, not po-dunk Florida; Tampa. a city. A big city. For years she grew happily doing things city folk do; namely…

I understand your pain. The first assignment we had after we were married was Ft. Leonard Wood (aka Ft. Lost in the Woods), MO. I went from a large city to two towns with a total population of 5,000 peeps. The closest big city was nearly 2 hours away.

Here is what we did. We explored the heck out of Missouri. On the weekend we would get in the car and just drive. Did you know there is a wine valley in Missouri? Yup and it has some pretty good wines. For those times when I needed big city amenities, we planned weekend trips to the closest big city and my husband allowed me to drag him around shopping and such.

Also lastly, I learned to appreciate those little small town shops. I've found some interesting items in those stores. Remember you are only in that one location for a few years, you'll get someplace new to explore before you know it.

*hugs*

Write a good romance novel.
Or read one…
Also, online schooling is pretty darn handy nowadays. :D

Good luck staying busy.

Oh honey! Try living in Fairbanks, Alaska! Nearest Target is about 7 HOURS away…which is how close the next city is…IF you travel in the summer with excellent roads. We have Walmart and Fred Meyers. Oh, and a little free-standing Sears. The big stores at our mall are Safeway grocery store, and Michael's Craft store. That said, you can always rediscover the small town, family owned private businesses. Fairbanks actually has a thriving downtown. OPEN shops! How many cities have that anymore?

We have been at Fort Stewart for a little over 3 years. Savannah isn't that far away, and its a nice change to get away from hinesville for a while. Head out to Tybee Island, or Jekyll Island to explore the beaches and light houses. Take a day trip to Jacksonville or a weekend to Atlanta. There are plenty of things to do, you just have to look for it. Go to Club One in savannah and hit up the Drag show. It's HILARIOUS! Midnight Star Pottery in richmond hill is where I practically live! I love going to thrift stores and seeing what treasures I can find. It's not a big city, but its a nice little place to live if you take the time to find the tucked away treasures southern georgia has!

You Know What….?

Guess… no, really, try to guess what. Ok, never mind, I’m only kidding. You don’t have to guess what throughout this whole blog. I love having Wayne on our team because he gives us that “guy’s” perspective that, so many times, goes unnoticed in Army Wife land. I mean how many of us ever thought…

I just like living on base because I feel safer. But the houses seem to get smaller and smaller and well, I have a lot of stuff!
