Here in the Crooks household June is a huge month for celebrations – it’s not only the month of my husband’s birthday but it’s Father’s Day as well. This year Father’s Day will be celebrated with Daddy many many miles away. We couldn’t let his two special days go by unnoticed even if we were so far apart. So, we drug out the large flat rate boxes and packed him up a few awesome packages. The first was for his birthday. He’s a simple guy so we went with things that he loves. His number one favorite (besides us of course) is his coffee. He might deny that and say he can live without it but he sure does drink a lot of it for someone who could. We purchased a Keurig Mini Plus at Kohls. I am sure he was worried it cost too much – he’s the saver. He would be so proud, though, we got it on sale, then additional 30% off, and $10.00 in Kohls Cash towards it. We matched that with a few of his other favorite things and some K-Cups and he got a wonderful birthday surprise.
Then comes Father’s Day – it’s only a few weeks away so we had to get our package in the mail very soon. Today we packed it all up to ship out. Thankfully he doesn’t get to read blogs very often so we can tell you about it in advance in case you want to pack up something similar for your soldier for Father’s Day. I have some other Father’s Day ideas at AWN you can take a look at if you need some inspiration. This time we went with an original. Everyone knows that deployments can drive you NUTS. That’s where the inspiration for this package came from. My daughter and I were “going nuts” thinking about how long he’d be gone, how many packages we needed to send, and we just started laughing about being “nuts”. Viola! A light bulb moment – “Daddy, we’re NUTS about YOU!” was born.
Here’s what we included in our package:
Peanut Butter Captain Crunch cereal
Nutty Bars
Nut Box Pumpkin Seeds (from my recent stop at Chelsea Market in NYC)
Nutter Butter cookies
Peanut M&Ms
Planters Peanuts
Peanuts in shell
Nutella To Go!
Jif To Go!
Wonderful Pistachios
Nature Valley Nut Bars
David Sunflower Seeds
Circus Peanuts
We completed it with a clay sculpture of Mr. Peanut made by the girls (they did such a great job) and a “Daddy We’re Nuts About You!” sign. Happy Father’s Day!

Very cute idea! I bet he will love it, it makes it so much easier when you have a theme. I know I find myself running out of ideas the longer he’s been gone.
Wow that is a great theme. I totally love this idea. As an Army wife on the verge of a new deployment I need more ideas
