Summer Shape Up

So, we are a few weeks into a year- long deployment.  So far, we are doing ok.  The first few days were tough.  Then we had Cub scouts

day camp.  I signed up to be the walking leader so, that was a busy week that pretty much drained us as the weather was hot and we were out in the sun most of the day.  After Cub scouts camp we headed to the Grandparents house.  We are staying here a bit and then heading to the beach for a few days.  After the beach there is Karate camp and a spread sheet full of Cub scouts activities to do.  We also have the aquarium, Lego Discovery land and a summer reading program on the calendar.

Yep, we are keeping busy.  You wonder how I filled up our calendar with activities?  Well, I had a plan.  You can read about that at our “mother” site ArmyWifeNetwork.com.   I like plans and being organized.  I have to work at being flexible in case an activity just is not working out.  I try to view plans going awry as an opportunity to do something else.

My goals this summer are to have fun, learn some new things and work on fitness.  Thank goodness my son is in Cub scouts because we can get all those things just working on the belt loops and pins.  As I was looking through the various requirements to get those belt loops and pins I started to mark different things that Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts could do with my son.  For instance, my mother-in-law knows a lot about different birds so I asked her if she could do the activities required for the belt loop and the pin.  I asked my father-in-law if he could show my son about the computer, printing and such.   There goes another belt loop and pin award.  I’m maximizing my resources.  While maximizing resources I’m also giving the opportunity to have some good quality time with family members.  I love when a plan comes together and becomes more than I expected.  Seriously, I just scored some HH6 points.

So, what are you doing with your summer?  Do you have a plan?  Are you wondering what to do?  Take a look at this list and try something new, something educational, something active…
