It’s not goodbye – it’s wahhhh!

I have never been good at making friends.  Like, ever.  From as far back as I can remember, I have been told I “look mean.”  Seriously.  I never know what to say when someone I meet finally gets comfortable enough with me to say, “I thought you were mean.”  Because, really, this face?  Is nothing…

I’ve always believed it’s much harder to be the one left behind than to be the one who is leaving. I completely understand your feelings!

Emily Grace - May 16, 2013 - 11:29 pm

Yes! I never put two and two together like that, but, yes, it is so much harder to be left behind!

I totally understand how you feel. one of my bffs is leaving this summer and I will be here with no one! I feel like I am similar to how you describe yourself- anti social with anxiety. but I don’t have kids to force me into meeting people. lol.

Nothing meds and wine can’t fix.

I live with crippling Social Anxiety Disorder.  Social situations scare the crap out of me.  If I am forced to interact with people I don’t know, there will be breathing into a paper bag involved before or after the encounter.  When I tell people about my anxiety, most folks are shocked.  It makes me laugh…

Good for you! I’m so happy to hear that you are willing to at least try! I have never been officially diagnosed but I also have crazy anxiety when it comes to getting in front of people or just going to the gas station… that’s right. I like to tell myself it’s not going to kill me to just try! You never know what will come of it. YOU GO GIRL!

Mary Kitzmiller - April 15, 2013 - 11:52 am

You’re my bestie for many reasons, but this is definitely one of them.

An Introvert’s Guide to Getting to Know Others

It seems like every where I turn lately, there’s discussion about the topic of “connectedness,” that is, how engaged {or how lonely} we may feel as military spouses. Whether it’s on message boards that I follow, or in Facebook discussions, or even in face-to-face conversations that I have with spouses new to our Post, I…

The best advice I ever received

Are you the kind of person who cringes when given advice? I used to be that person. When I was 17. But, since then, I’ve learned that there comes a point in time when a bit of well-meaning advice can go a long way in making life a little bit smoother…and this is especially true…

1001 Things To Love About Military Life - March 2, 2013 - 11:07 am

Awww, thank you April for recommending 1001. “It’s a must read and I guarantee it’ll put a smile on your face.” You call our book a “little charmer,” and we do hope that it is a good luck charm for all who read it!

Starlett Henderson - March 2, 2013 - 11:11 am

April — it’s nice to see “1001 Things” on your list, which happens to also include other book recommendations for spouses, families and service members. One of my absolute must-read recommendations is Shellie Vandevoorde’s ‘Separated by Duty, United in Love.” The title alone speaks volumes to me.
