It’s life.

Yesterday, my husband and I were in the waiting room of a shipping company, waiting happily for our car to be delivered to us. We recently shipped it from Hawaii, during our PCS, and took the day to go and pick it up. We goofed and laughed during the two hour, traffic filled drive, excited…

We have two car shipping incidents. When he was stationed in England, my husband bought a new American car through a dealer on base. The car was transported from Germany and ferried across the Channel. When he went to watch them unload the car (by crane) they dropped it overboard. (It was totalled.) The second incident was when we were PCS’ing back to the States. I was 5 months pregnant and looking forward (not) to driving across the country from New Jersey to IL in our Toyota Chinook camper. When we landed at Dover and went to pick up the car, we found someone had tried to remove the stove and power inverter, so we needed to get some repairs. But it ran! And, yes, we were able to laugh because at least they hadn’t dropped it off the ship!

I *want* to be all by myself.

For the longest time, I considered myself misanthropic, but really, I’m just an introvert with misanthropic tendencies.  To most people, if you like to be alone, there’s something wrong with you.  You’re a hermit, and you need to get out of your shell, because being a “loner” is unacceptable.  My perfect day would involve being…

Its about time you came outta the closet! :) For years I would go to school, I was terribly shy, up until the 10th grade! Then, a Holy Uproar of “Who the heck am I”???, came about, and I had pushed a limit, but not my limits. Each year, its harder to make friends since I have moved again, and left them behind, or they have left me. Each year, my Facebook grows, but the True Friends that I have where I am I can count on one hand! Its difficult being friends with Women! THERE, I said it! I do not know how they are going to handle things. I have been friends with closet eaters, blabbermouths, and mice women. AND MORE!!! The good thing is, that when we see others, we do not wear it like the Scarlet Letter! I am glad I met you, and laugh at your blog…well, that or cry! :) You are super talented, my friend Emily! Next time we see each other, smile…or break down and do a spin! :) Peace Out! Til next blog! :)
Respectfully,
Aimee

This is exactly to a tee how I am, and I’ve always felt so guilty about it and like I had to force myself constantly to become more extroverted. It’s almost like I’ve hidden this part of me. People constantly make me feel bad for not wanting to “go out and have fun”. I have more fun at home with a Sex & The City marathon! If I was out “having fun”, I’d feel awkward, uncomfortable, and be counting down until the minute I felt it was “acceptable” to leave. Thank you for putting it so well, and making me a little more comfortable with who I am.

I think that people forget that some people just need time to recharge and refocus. As always I’m glad you are there to speak up for those that can’t seem to find the words to express themselves.

I totally get this! For years I thought I needed to fix this about me. Then I read a book designed to help a person realize their God-given gifts and talents and I realized that my talents, though they make me inclined to be an introvert, can be used just as effectively for unique and purposeful things. I’ve come to embrace my introvertedness and I too count down the minutes until bedtime. That’s when my gifts and talents come out of where they have been hiding all day while I needed to take care of everyone else. Thanks for posting!

[...] I am an introvert. Many criticize introverts, but I encourage criticizers to read “I *want* to be all by myself” and “Guide to Understanding the Introverted.” Not everyone can be a people [...]
